Looks like the claims of the patent are not what is claimed by the title.
This patent is not for automatically generating documents. This patent is for automatically generating templates from documents and automatically selecting templates. Jeff Veit (6 months ago)
Regarding Claim 0001
Not sure how this is different from:
Any existing program which takes input in one form on the screen (input into a template, received by an input module), and lays it out on paper in a different format (output to a second template). The transformation would normally have been pre-calculated, but the input data must still be output (by a processing module) to create the output template.
Microsoft Word does this. Microsoft PowerPoint does this. All text layout programs do this if the screen input zone is not an exact match for the paper output. And even in WYSIWYG software, where the representation on screen and the representation in the template for paper output must match, there is a step in calculating the input to output transformation because the screen dots per inch and the paper dots per inch don't usually match.PEER TO PATENT ACTIVITY
